Design-specific wear ladders, cleaning and damage screening, counterfeit tells, doubled-die close-ups and the four Mint State factors. When a call is close, it grades down, the way the grading room does.
Tap and the camera opens. We'll guide you: front first, then the back. It snaps the photo by itself when the ring turns green.
Every result is an estimate, not a grade. Only PCGS or NGC issue certified grades. In-hand inspection catches problems photos can't.
1 Capture the coin
Front and back are required. Edge, a doubled-die close-up and a 3-second tilt video make the estimate tighter: the tilt video is the only way to see luster, so without it the engine takes the lower grade.
- Put the coin on something dark, like a towel or a black shirt.
- Use daylight from a window. No flash.
- Hold the phone flat above the coin, about a hand's width away.
- Wait for the green ring. The photo takes itself.

Light: bright, diffuse daylight or a lamp bounced off paper at about 45°. Never flash.
Fill the frame: the guide ring turns green when the coin is centred, big enough, sharp and glare-free.
Background: dark and plain. Hold coins by the edges and never clean them.
Weigh it: a $10 0.01 g scale settles 1943, 1944 and 1982 cents (3.11 g bronze, 2.70 g steel, 2.50 g zinc).
